Top 5 TLC Matches in WWE History

Top 5 TLC Matches in WWE History

With the WWE pay-per-view, "Tables, Ladders and Chairs," coming up on Dec. 18, that brings up a good time to look at the gimmick match. There is only one TLC match on the entire card, although there is a chair's match and a table's match and the Triple H vs. Kevin Nash match might as well be called a ladder match. The only TLC match is the main event with CM Punk, The Miz and Alberto Del Rio.

Will it compete with the best of all time? Let's look at the top TLC matches in WWE history.

1. SummerSlam 2000

The WrestleMania match gets more recognition, since it is WrestleMania, but the Summerslam TLC match between the Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian was the best TLC match the WWE has ever pulled off. For those who don't know, The Dudley's always used tables, the Hardy's were masters of ladder matches and Edge & Christian used to use the con-chair-to, which they each pancaked chairs into their opponents head at the same time. Hence, the TLC match. Bubba goes from the top of a ladder through chairs outside the ring in the biggest spot and Edge & Christian win the WWE tag team titles.

2. WrestleMania 17

Next, we come to WrestleMania's TLC rematch between the same three teams. This is the match where Jeff Hardy held onto the tag team title belt, dangling above the ring, and Edge flies off the top of a ladder to spear them both out of the match. This one is ranked slightly lower than the Summerslam one because Rhyno and Spike Dudley were involved and didn't need to be. Regardless, it was an amazing match.

3. One Night Stand 2008

The first One Night Stand was an all ECW booked PPV and one of the company's biggest. This was the next year and it had nothing to do with ECW except that it was all pretty much hardcore matches. The TLC match pitted Edge against the Undertaker for the vacant World Championship, if Undertaker loses he leaves the WWE. The match had sick spots and Edge actually beat the Undertaker for the title, making him an even bigger star.

4. WWE Raw (January 16, 2006)

This was a big time TLC match from WWE Monday Night Raw between Edge and a 56-year old Ric Flair. During the match, Flair is busted open in the first five minutes with a big chair shot. Shortly after that, Edge places Flair on a table, climbs to the top of the ladder and hits a splash through the Flair and the table. Edge then superplexes Flair off the top of the ladder onto the mat. Near the end of the match, Flair sent the ladder, with Edge at the top, toppling over with Edge went through a table. Edge finally won, but it took Lita's interference. Did I mention that Flair was 56?

5. SummerSlam 2009

In 2009, one of the originators of the TLC match, Jeff Hardy, took on today's biggest superstar, CM Punk, for the WWE World Title in a TLC match. This was Hardy's last match in the WWE and he went out in style. It wasn't as good as the other four on the list but this was two of the best in the WWE going at it full speed and ended with Punk winning the title. The highlight was Hardy hitting a swanton from the top of the ladder through Punk and a table.
